I have enjoyed doing this module and have been engaged with it, and I think that shows through in my work. My essay writing skills have certainly improved, because movie posters are such a big topic, I was almost trying to cover everything in the essay, but by focusing it down onto four specific case studies, I was able to write a simpler essay with more detail about each case study. This also informed the work I produced for my practical work, focusing on the successes of each poster and creating another poster in response. I think my essay and practical work have a clear link, and that demonstrates my understanding or the topic.
I am pleased with how my final poster designs came out, not only are they bold and interesting compositions, they further emphasise the points put across in the essay and show an engaging level of experimentation. Throughout the module, I thought of many different formats to present my work in, these ideas changed as I completed more of the essay, and got a better understanding of what conclusion I would come to. The idea I went for in the end, the small zine, I think was the right choice. It’s just nice to see all the initial ideas together in one place where you can flick through them.
If I had to improve the work I have produced in response to this module, it would probably be less a case of changing any of my ideas drastically, and more so a case of just improving even more the way in which I have produced the work. The production quality of the zine is good, with a pamphlet stitch, antique white paper stock and a mango orange cover. The only problem is that there was a slight printer malfunction and some of the black ink has chipped off. Given time to develop this work, I would create a bigger publication, design more posters to put inside and put more information and imagery in.
